Day 72

So here we are, 72 days on from that quick visit to see the midwife at St George’s to make sure all was ok with Roz’s pregnancy and we’re still here! Ok, so we’re a hundred yards further down the corridor from that first room we came to see the midwife in but sure enough, Level 1 of the Lanesborough Wing at St George’s is like our home from home. And for Savannah,  it remains her home for the time-being, having settled into her spot in ICU3 back in the middle of October, she’s well and truly dug in and quite happy in her surroundings, two and a bit months on.

Whilst other babies keep coming and going, SJ keeps on making her slow steady progress, interspersed with little steps backwards every now and then, just to keep us on the edge of our seats. This last week’s been no exception, with some good progress on bringing her oxygen requirement down, followed by a couple of days of it creeping back up again and now gradually creeping back down once again.  If there isn’t one already, I’d definitely like to suggest to any theme park owning readers that the next biggest,  scariest,  fastest roller coaster to be built should be called, simply “oxygen”. I can certainly vouch, first hand, for the nail biting ride that is  “oxygen”.

Anyway, so at the time of writing,  SJ is hovering around the mid-40s with her oxygen requirement so down a good deal on the high of the week of 60 odd of Christmas eve and with the worry of her little lungs collapsing parked once again,  we’re happily watching for the gradual improving trend to keep on going.

In other news and just to save us from not having anything to worry about for a moment or two, her poos have been a touch on the loose side of late. Stool samples have been collected (not a glamorous job!) and sent to the lab for testing to see if SJ has picked up a virus or if this is just a result of something dodgy I cooked, Roz ate and ultimately Savannah digested in her milk.

On a more jolly note, Savannah’s fan club of fluffy guardians is continuing to grow with some new additions to the team arriving over Christmas…..

And when Christmas all got a bit too much to cope with….

Whilst there’s no talk of home dates or even graduating out of intensive care and along to the High Dependency room, we’re hopeful that at day 72, Savannah’s broken the back of her stay here at St George’s and we’ve passed the half way mark. We know, only too well, that there’s no certainties in this premature baby business but nonetheless,  we’re hopeful we’re at least on the home straight now, even if that’s a very long straight. Watch this space!
