Loving being ignored

Being ignored isn’t generally something to relish. A rule which typically applies in hospitals too when you’re anxiously hoping for the maximum amount of attention you can get from the doctors and nurses in order to expedite your recovery and get you home as quick as poss.  That said,  we’re absolutely loving being ignored by the doctors at the moment, with Savannah no longer being the centre of attention and the baby they spend the longest amount of time discussing on the twice daily rounds.  For now, we’re back to hearing the fantastic words “no news” from the docs as they skip on by.   Whilst SJ still has a long way to go,  the lack of news and any monumental leaps of progress on a daily basis doesn’t worry us (nor those in the know) as growing just takes time and Savannah still has 2 more months to go until she reaches her full gestation age.

So for now at least (and long may it continue), we’re settling back down into our hospital routine.  We’re also starting to get to know people here at St George’s having been coming everyday for over a month now and are getting to be pros at managing hospital life. As well as discovering where to buy the best cappuccinos, where to find the best parking spaces and discovering a secret shop in the med school with a dazzlingly useful array of cards for any occasion imagainable, our biggest win is having figured out that Savannah’s bowl movements run to a strict timetable! It seems she likes to treat the day staff to an explosion of poo bang on 8.30am every morning to welcome them to their shift! Now,  whilst we like doing everything we can for little SJ and change her nappies several times a day, having witnessed her almost unfathomable ability to creat giant poo explosions, we’re quite happy to miss her first and biggest of the day and rock up at the hospital at 8.45am, shortly after the bomb disposal team have completed operation baby botty clear up!

As it’s Saturday today and we’re both able to spend the day with her,  we’re getting bonus double cuddles today.  On which note, I should probably explain the chest wig photos of our cuddles posted last night. We’re told that skin to skin contact is very soothing for SJ and it seems she quite likes a hairy chest to cuddle up to and stay warm on! So whilst we recommend not reading these blog posts, with their tales of poo and pictures of my bare chest, immediately before eating,  we hope the graphic accounts of Savannah’s progress are well recieved by her audience around the world!

  1. Savannah’s great grandma is upset I’m going home Monday because then she will only see blogs every other week when David visits, instead of as soon as they are posted. We are both so glad that Savannah is heading in the right direction. Have to admit, the hairy chest was zoomed out of the picture as we zoomed in on the focal point!
Much love from both of us.
