Going in the right direction

What a difference a week makes.  This time last week, it’s fair to say we weren’t in a great place and were more than a little anxious about little Savannah’s increasingly poorly state. Skip forward a week to today and she’s right back in the game and looking like she’s winning.  Still a long way to go to get her off the steroids (which are being weaned down gradually) and keep her from going backwards when this happens but right now, she’s doing everything the docs wanted her to do and she’s look a million times perkier than a week ago when she was doped up to the sky with morphine and medazlesomethingorother to keep her constantly sedated.

Aside from her breathing mask and feeding tube going into her tummy (via her mouth), SJ doesn’t even have any pipes going into her right now and the machines that were continuously pumping all sorts of things into her little body, have all gone now and we’re hoping they don’t make a reappearance any time soon.

The doctors are being very careful to manage our expectations and explain that she will definitely take a step backwards when the steroids stop but we’re all staying quietly optimistic that this will be a teeny step back, followed by lots more forward. So with one month done and two more to go before SJ get’s to full term and we can even think about brining her home, and having already experienced the full force of the ups and downs of the neonatal unit roller-coaster ride we were promised, we continue to take each day as it comes and grip on with white knuckles. In the meantime, Savannah’s being kept a watchful eye over by her ever increasing collection of cuddly animals in her incubator.
