One month old today

I can’t quite believe Savannah is a month old… The time has flown by but the birth also seems a lifetime ago. We’ve been very lucky to have had a bonus month with our daughter that we didn’t think we’d get.

Not only is it her 1 month anniversary but it is also World Prematurity Day designed to raise awareness of the issues premature babies and their families face… Although I guess reading this blog is starting to give you a brief introduction and education!Β  15 million babies are born too soon every year, 60,000 of those in the UK. St George’s cares for over 600 babies each year in its neonatal unit and 480 of these babies admitted in 2013 were premature. The earliest gestation was 23 weeks and 470g the least weight… Savannah was positively old and fat compared to that!

First Touch is the amazing charity that supports babies at St George’s and if you want to help you can donate to this amazing charity by simply texting FTSG12 Β£5 to 70070.

Savannah seems to want to join in celebrating the day too and is now fully off her sedatives, awake for the first time in 10 long, horrible days and is kicking up a storm. She has successfully been aggressively weaned off the vent, as planned, and has just gone back onto CPAP so fingers crossed she copes on it this time. We have been warned that when the steriods are finished she is likely to go back a little but hopefully she will have progressed enough in that time that she is better off than she was.

The best consequence of being back on CPAP is that we can get another cuddle. So after a horrific week last week, this one is definitely off to a much better start.

I’ve just finished reading your blog, so beautifully written with a lovely dose of humour! What a rollercoaster you’ve been on, hopefully the next few months will be a lot smoother for the three of you. Stay strong and off the ventilators SJ x
