We are two very excited and proud parents today as when we came back in this morning we find Savannah still on CPAP!! Her blood gases have been good and she is having fewer episodes of apnea which is fantastic but still having some moments of bradycardia (desaturation). She is nearing her PB on CPAP and we couldn’t be happier.
The nurses also introduced SJ to her first dummy to help her get used to sucking and chewing. She seems to quite like it and it also seems to help her hunger (still nill by mouth this morning to allow her to concentrate solely on her breathing).
The best part of the day, and week, came just before lunch as they were changing the incubator and Sam got his first proper cuddle with Savannah. The pictures below show just how much it meant to him. It was amazing for me to watch but obviously I was a little jealous and can’t wait for my next skin to skin session (known as Kangaroo care) with Savannah.
She remains very active but when settled she looks very relaxed. They are reintroducing her feeds this evening so we wait to see if she tolerates her milk and can cope with concentrating on both breathing and feeding. Fingers crossed she can stay on CPAP but either way she has done amazingly well for such a teenie tiny little thing.

Great to see daddy holding his little girl! Can’t wait to see more of SJ with both mommy and daddy soon! Wishing you three all the best!!!

Wonderful news and so lovely to see Sam with SJ too. Only a matter of time before you are both able to hold her on regular occasions xxx
