1 week old and counting

A pretty uneventful, yet very welcome, weekend. It’s funny how the hospital is bustling with people all week and then,  along comes the weekend and entire place empties out like a ghost town.  Clearly Savannah has picked up on the requirement not to need a great deal of attention from the doctors at the weekend and has behaved impeccably. Let’s just hope she continues to do so, come the start of the new week tomorrow.

Other highlights of the weekend include our much anticipated fry up in the canteen,  although sadly no “fried slices” available so we’re still none the wiser as to what they are.  I also went on an expectant fathers course, which was booked a month or so ago,  when I was still expecting to be an expectant father at this stage.  At least I didn’t have to travel far for the course tho,  as it was right here in our home from home,  St George’s.

And after learning how to put a nappy on a baby doll on my course,  Savannah dutifully decided to put Daddy’s new found skill to the test with a poo explosion, the likes of which I’ve not seen since I last watched the movie  Trainspotting.  Clearly all our cheering and encouraging of SJ’s bowls to get to work,  had done the trick and our clever little girl is wasting no time in demonstrating to us just how well they’re now working. Lesson learnt. .. Be careful what you wish for!

Aunty Elly came to visit SJ on Saturday too and as we weren’t able to fit the donuts she kindly brought along, into a syringe and down Savannah’s feeding tube,  Roz and I took one for the team and ate the entire bag ourselves!

So not very interesting reading in today’s blog I’m afraid but we couldn’t be happier that no news to report is definitely good news and in the absence of anything exciting to write,  here’s a few pics of life in the neonatal icu.
