Aside from Monday’s drama with SJ’s neighbour Jack (who’s doing well now and making good progress again after scaring everyone for a few moments on Monday), week 2 is beginning to settle into a routine and thankfully the lack of news to report is indeed a very good thing. It’s been pretty tough getting back into the swing of work and leaving Savannah and Roz in the hospital without me for much of the days but I’m still getting to see her for a few hours before and after work which is hands down the highlight of the day for me.
A few friends have said that the first thing they do each day is check the blog to see how Savannah’s doing, which is really touching to know how much our friends care about us all. It’s much the same for us and I’ve now got into the routine of phoning the ICU as soon as I wake up each morning to find out how Savannah’s night has been and if there’s anything to report. The doctors and nurses are great and don’t mind us calling for an update day or night. Once that phone call’s been made and the great news that there’s another night with no news, reported to Roz, we can begin breathing again and start getting on with the day.
With no dramas to report, a few interesting factoids to report instead…..SJ’s weight is almost back up to her birth weight of 865g and she’s a good little eater, with her feeds now increased to a whopping 6ml of mummy milk every hour. That’s a full pint of milk every 4 days or so! She’s eating so well in fact that the long line she had in her leg, giving her extra nutrients and bits and pieces has now been removed, as has the cannula in her arm so that’s two fewer pipes going into her and more of her teeny self that we can see, without badges covering her up. Oh and Aunty Sarah (Roz’s sis) came to visit today and we decided that, like the queen, SJ should have two birthdays – her official birthday being 17th October each year and her ceremonial birthday being her due date of 22nd Jan. That way she’ll be able to choose how old she wants to be and whether to age quicker or slower as well as holding out for double pressies!
And that’s about it for now…here’s pic still with the pipe in her arm but we’ll get a snap without it tomorrow.
