Remember that blog post a month or so ago when Roz and I asked to have a chat with one of the consultants for an update and immediately regretted opening our mouths as we were whisked away to the naughty room and warned of all the terrible things that could lay ahead? Well, right now I wish I’d never opened my big mouth yet again and suggested the idea of setting myself a challenge to raise some money for the neonatal unit’s charity!
So it seems that thanks to the digital age, my registering to take part in the 185 mile round London Revolution bike ride which resulted in me registering on the Virigin Money Giving site, which connected to the First Touch charity site, which Roz and I then posted on Facebook, which then connected to the First Touch Facebook group, which then filtered through to the staff on the unit at St George’s and now, it seems, every single member of staff on the unit knows that I’ve signed up to this crazy fund raising idea. I somehow feel the time to back out of this idea has passed and there’s no longer any going back on the scheme, so the only thing for it is to get on my bike and pedal.
The good news is that I’m now the proud owner of one shiny new bike, a job lot of cycling gear and an app on my phone that will tell me exactly how fast (or slowly) I’m going and will share my training regime with the entire digital world, the moment I start! There’s not much left to do other than pedal like the clappers!
So with a little over 4 months to get into shape in order to be able to cycle 185 miles over 2 days in mid-May for an incredible cause which Roz and I can’t even begin to show our gratitude to, what better way could there be to start then by knowing there’s a big pot of cash waiting for the charity when I complete the challenge.
And as I forgot to attach the link to the sponsorship page on the first post, here it is in case you feel the urge to give a little bit of support to the work of this amazing charity:
And in case you need any reminding of just how amazing the work of the team at St George’s neonatal unit is….here’s a quick recap of their tireless work to keep Savannah alive and get her healthy over the past 3 months….
