Inspired by Savannah’s contsant battle with her chronic lung disease and everything else thrown at her which she fights off with gusto, I decided it was time to man up and shake off my cold so I could get back to visiting with her after 2 very long days away. Slight flaw in my plan tho…I only managed to shake my cold as far as Roz and promptly gave it to her instead! So whilst my visiting rights have now been reinstated, Roz’s have been retracted and she’s been under house arrest for the last 2 days which is killing her not being able to see SJ. Still, at least Savannah hasn’t been infected with any of our germs, which with her poorly lungs would be a disaster, so the pain of staying away is relieved slightly by the knowledge that we’ve been doing the right thing for her teenyness.
Whilst Roz has been away, and in the absense of any milk producing breasts of my own, I’ve had the chance to try Savannah at cup feeding instead, which had been bags of fun, if a little messy! Turns out that bottle feeding is too easy and won’t train her to work for her food on the breast so cup feeding is meant to be closer to the real thing. It’s pretty straightforward. ..I hold a cup up to SJ’s mouth and sure enough, she lapse at the milk with her tongue and gobbles 80% of it down her throat and 20% down herself, me and any unsuspecting passing doctors or nurses who stray into the danger zone. Sounds simple enough, were it not for the fact that the operation relies on SJ being awake in order to do her part of the drinking. Again, simple enough, except for the fact she sleeps for 23 hours a day! Hey ho, at least she’s had a good stab at it on the odd occasion that she’s been awake. I present Exhibit A….. some action shots of the feeding…
And as of this afternoon, with new protective gear on. ..
In other news….our plea for mittens has been well and truely answered with the first 2 packages of teeny mits arriving from honoury aunties Sue and Val in today’s post and more expected to from arrive from somerset and all the way across the pond shortly too. Exhibit B….
And modelling them…..
