Savannah continues to put on weight overall, clocking in at 1650g (3.6 lb) this morning. She has grown so much that she has been upgraded to the next size hat and nasal mask! Spot the difference.
Thanks to Paul and Lesley we’ve also been able to bring a little bit of Christmas to Savannah’s incubator with her first Xmas decoration this week too.
Both Emily and Tyler (babies from our nursery) have been promoted to High Dependency so our nursery has a new collection of babies in it and we are the longest serving members. The new babies are older though and look like giants. It always surprises me now when I see term or nearer term babies how big they are. So even though SJ has doubled in size they are a reminder of really how teenie she still is and how much growing she still has to do.
The other day I was pretty chuffed when I found £5 on the pavement and added this to Wolfey’s hugely generous donation to First Touch. Then I was talking to Nick about how it sucks being poor (statutory maternity at 90% has already finished) and how I can’t say no so haven’t ended up agreeing to look after the neighbours cats over Christmas. I said hopefully I was building up good karma points…. Then whilst waking to the hospital later that day I noticed something blowing in the wind down the road. Turned out to be money… £280 of it, in teners and twenties. So if no one collects it within 28 days from the police station it is ours to keep. So maybe karma was listening with this nice charitable donation to fall in our laps (although some of that charity might end up being Savannah).
Our good luck and Savannah’s stability and growth, however, was put into stark contrast yesterday when the baby who had taken Jack’s slot in the nursery tragically lost her battle with life. Hugely upsetting, depressing and terrifying as it reminds us of the fragility of these teenie tiny babies and the difficult journey we are on. To steal a line from a doctor “you aren’t out of the woods until you are out of the door”…. And I suspect not even then! Our thoughts and prayers are with baby and family at this time.

Sending you big hugs and loads of love!

Such a hard and emotionally charged time and I can only imagine such an incident hits you more than we can begin to imagine. So pleased SJ is making wonderful progress though and every day I look forward to seeing how she’s doing. She’s getting more and more gorgeous as well – super proud of you all xxx
