Sheesh, as if visiting Savannah in intensive care everyday for the last 6 weeks wasn’t a clear enough indication that she still has some work to do to get herself better, one of the consultants decided to give us yet another reality check this week with his reminder that “we’re not out of the woods yet”. Great.
There’s all sorts of positives to look at from the last fortnight but the slight increases in oxygen, slightly more frequent desats, relegation back to bipap from cpap and reminders from the docs that we’re some way off getting the all clear are more than enough to keep us worrying like mad about poor little Savannah. And as if SJ doesn’t have enough to cope with right now, she also seems to have had a bad run on the nursing rota for the last few days and had an array of new nurses looking after her who have yet to get to grips with all her likes and dislikes and all those little foibles that the other nurses, who know her, are familiar with and know how to handle.
Anyway, enough of the feeling sorry for ourselves routine and back to the positive stuff. As I write this, mummy and SJ are currently enjoying the first cuddles in 3 days….I give you Exhibit A…
She (Savannah that is) has also put on her largest amount of weight in a 24h period and is up by almost 100g today at close to1300g, presumably thanks to her new protein shakes! That’s now double the lowest weight she hit and despite being the teeniest thing still, we can quite clearly see her starting to fill out. On a related note, I think I’m up a similar weight today too, thanks to some amazing cupcakes sent to us by Eddie and Jaime all the way from Hong Kong. …I give you exhibit B (yes that really is popcorn on top of some of them and how on earth it stayed on all the way from Hong Kong is increadible)…
And whilst we’re talkng gifts, there’s been far too many fantastic and hugely generous gifts to say all our thank yous to everyone here but one other noteworthy and similarly weight gaining (us, not Savannah this time) gift this week arrived from Sunil & Hetal in the form of a meat gift box for us to feast on. The accompany card, adorned with a pork chop is also my personal fave baby card so far….I give you Exhibit C….
As much as we’re enjoying these tasty treats, we’re pretty confidnet that Savannah will benefit from them too, with even more amazing tasting mummy milk to help her put on the pounds this week.
So, it’s all about the waiting and weighing game this week as we wait for SJ to make her everso steady teeny steps of progress and as we keep on watching her weight with an eagle eye in the hope she starts bulking up and getting stronger and stronger.

Ian was wondering if snake soup from Hong Kong may help!!!
