Up and down

Savannah continues to be a little up and down with her oxygen, varying from percentages in the high thirties to the low fifties. This morning her average was 50% but she seems more settled this evening and at the time of writing this her oxygen levels are 43% (with a record low of 37% today) so below the 52% the consultant said he’d be happy with at the end of this week. She is still having some desats and a few bradycardia’s but fewer than before. So whilst she is definitely not out of the woods yet she is doing better than before the steriods.

Gold star for Savannah!

SJ did end up having a blood transfusion in the end although this didn’t significantly help her breathing it didn’t hurt, and she is now being given iron as well to help boost her hemoglobin levels.

Savannah definitely looks a little chunkier to the eye, and has been putting on weight over the last few days, she just isn’t doing it at an optimal rate apparently so is being given some milk fortifier, which as far as I can tell is a powdered medley of vitamins, carbohydrates and calories! So a little like the powdered sachets you get in America which you can add to boost your smoothies (well minus the a few thousand added adult calories of course).

The consultant did say we can expect her to be a little up and down and he doesn’t want to rush her or push her too quickly so I think she’ll be staying on CPAP for a while longer before stepping down to the nasal canulars.

Most of the past couple of days Savannah has been sleeping (prem babies sleep an average of 21 hours a day).

But we did a few mins of her being wide awake so here a couple of rare pictures with her eyes wide open.
